Definition: The two divided lands of Egypt; the desert the "red land", distinguishing it from the flood plain around the Nile River, called the "black land" (Mysteries of Egypt).
Significance: All the Black Land was given for farming and growing crops and all the Red Land was for making houses. Red Land was outside of the area where the Nile flooded. Houses could not be built there because then they would be flooded and the people would not have a place to live (Geography). This helped keep Egypt organized and make sure good farming land was used for farming. |

Significance: Hatshepsut is known as the best woman Egyptian pharaoh. She created trade relationships with foreign countries instead of going to war with them and made Egypt rich through trade. She made buildings and monuments throughout Egypt. Her most famous building was the mortuary temple at Djeser-Djeseru (Hatshepsut). |
